touch catalog
UBI INTERACTIVE INC. 2014
PROBLEM
Ubi Interactive's Marketing team needed a new way to present their software to customers, particularly owners of retail stores. They believed that the interactive software - which turns projections or monitors into touch screens using the Xbox Kinect - could be used in a retail setting to create giant interactive catalogs or slideshows, which could be found inside or in the windows of stores.
The issue with displaying a store's website on a touch-screen is that the elements of a typical site are difficult for the users to touch with their hands.
It was also important to include a feature where customers could interact with Sales Assistants to get the extra help that they need when they need it.
Finally, we wanted to create a way for small businesses to gain additional sales analytics based on which products customers are viewing.
ACTION
During the process of creating a scenario for this issue, we considered using the following examples:
Shoe Store - Customers could be able to browse shoes by their size and ask for help from a sales assistant.
Hardware / Appliance Store - An in-store catalog could assist customers in being able to visualize the components large products on large screens that are not available on the floor of the store.
Bike Shop - Customers could be able to browse bikes by size and brand. They could also ask for help from a sales assistant. An in-store catalog could assist customers in being able to visualize the components large products on large screens that are not available on the floor of the store.
We decided to use a bike shop as an example for this retail scenario, because it covered all aspects of what we were trying to show with this project.
RESULT
The following interactive catalog was created for a hypothetical bike retailer called Machinal. This catalog could be displayed inside a store or in a storefront window using rear projection.
